Principessa Gavia, Gavi DOCG, by Banfi (2019)

Posted on

This wine is a great way to get to know some key Italian white wines and good value at $19. Pale lemon with a hint of green hue, and a slight effervescence when pouring a glass. The bouquet and flavour profile is medium-to-intense with a mix of green apple and green pear, a touch of lemon citrus and a hint of hay. The palate is dry, medium-to-low acidity, medium body and the length is short.

Appearance: Medium ruby with pinkish rim

2018 Erath Pinot noir, Oregon

Nose: Cherry, red currant, confectioners sugar, nutmeg and pickling spices, toast and fall leaves.

Palate: Dry with medium-to-low acidity, medium tannins of a soft feel, medium alcohol and medium body. Flavours of prune, dark fruit and there was a lingering note of herbs and leaves. The finish was short but still pleasant.

Overall, the wine was judged as good to very good based on the variety of the scents and flavours. Good balance. The wine represents the characters of cooler climate Pinot noir. Good value at $25.
